Pokes Extend Streak to Four, Thump Bears February 23, 2002
Oklahoma State is one tough road win away from wrapping up the third seed in the Big 12 Tournament, a finish that seemed near impossible just two weeks ago. The Cowboys rolled over Baylor for the 10th consecutive time 77-64 as the Bears lost their 16th consecutive road game.
Ivan McFarlin led OSU with 20 points and 14 rebounds and Fredrick Jonzen added a double-double as well with 12 points and 10 boards to improve the Cowboys to 22-6 overall, 9-5 in conference. Victor Williams added 18 points and Melvin Sanders put in 16.
Freshman Lawrence Roberts scored 22 points and added 15 rebounds for the Bears who lost for the fourth straight time. R.T. Guinn scored a career-high 18 points and grabbed seven rebounds while John Lucas scored 10.
Oklahoma State jumped out early to a 17-4 lead and Baylor got it back to as close as 29-25 in the first half, but OSU finished the half on an 11-4 run to take a 40-29 lead at intermission.
"I thought when we started out we had a lot of energy, our defense was active and forcing turnovers," Sutton said. "We should have been up 14, 15 points, but it reached a point where they sensed they could play with us. You've got to give their club a lot of credit. They really hung in there."
Baylor got as close as three in the second half at 44-41, but OSU had a few runs left and put together short runs of 9-2 and 8-2 en route to the 13 point win.
Oklahoma State plays next at Missouri on Monday night at 8 p.m. The game will be televised on ESPN as part of Big Monday.
