Pokes Conservatively Thump Bobcats

In a game with the excitement of a Joe Dickinson offense, the Oklahoma State Cowboys defeated the Southwest Texas State Bobcats 23-0 to go to 2-0.  The Bobcat offense failed to score following the letdown of last week's heartbreaking overtime 19-13 loss  to powerhouse California State-Northridge.

Del Miller and the Poke Staff said they are still not showing much of the offense they implemented in the off season and it was painfully obvious.  OSU fans should hope that there is more to see from this offense because Seth Condley's leg won't beat Southern Mississippi next week.

Condley, playing in front of his fiancé for the first time, kicked three field goals in the OSU victory.  Condley proposed to his girlfriend in front of 20,000 fans at the Orange Peel inside of Lewis Field on Friday Night.  Needless to say, she accepted.

Reggie White had his second consecutive 100 yard game with the 130 yard performance against the Bobcats Saturday night.  Tony Lindsay passed for 193 yards on the night without the breakout performance that many Poke faithful were hoping for.

The Cowboys showed very little of the Del Miller offense that was brought in to save Bob Simmons job after the '99 offensive debacle.  A 23-0 shutout over Southwest Texas State would be impressive for UCO, but if you're a Cowboy fan you must wonder what to take from this win.  We've seen the numerous upsets this season in college football, but what do the Pokes take from this win?

Experience in a new offense?  Nope, Del Miller still says we haven't seen his offense.  So we're supposed to see it against a defense that shut out Alabama in Birmingham?

Confidence after a 5-6 season?  By beating a division 1-AA team, not hardly.

Newcomers and backups getting important real game play?  Aso Pogi and Tatum Bell didn't even see action until there was about seven minutes left.

The Cowboys achieved very little in the scheme of things.  We don't know what kind of team this is and neither do they.  The only positive from this perspective is there were no serious injuries.  Which is good because they'll need every healthy body they can get against the Eagles.

The Pokes plan to unveil this offense against a Southern Miss team that has had some of the best defensive units in the country over the last 5 years.  So if the new offense sputters on Saturday, when do they practice it in a game situation?

At Texas?  At Missouri?  Don't laugh, the Tigers held Michigan State to 13 points in Colombia on Saturday.

Poke fans must pack Lewis Field on Saturday.  The season opener is here for the Cowboys.
