2001 Oklahoma Cowboys Season Analysis
1. Oklahoma State at Southern Mississippi. September 1, 2001. Oklahoma State was embarrassed in Stillwater a year ago with no offense in a 28-6 thrashing. This year you will see more creativity on the offensive side, but may be too early to make a difference against a strong defense. Southern Miss- 21 Oklahoma State- 17. (0-1) 2. Louisiana Tech at Oklahoma State. September 8, 2001. Louisiana Tech will be the first victim of Les Miles at Oklahoma State. Fans of the Techsters will immediately turn their attention to women's hoops. Oklahoma State- 45 La. Tech-21. (1-1) 3. Northern Arizona at Oklahoma State. September 15, 2001. Has anybody ever seen a good team that was the northern school of their state? Didn't think so. Definitely the weakest link of directional coordinates. Oklahoma State-51 N. Arizona-10. (2-1) 4. Oklahoma State at Texas A&M. September 22, 2001. The Cowboys have had many recent heartbreaks at the hands of the Aggies, if it was in Stillwater I would feel differently. Texas A&M-24 Oklahoma State-21. (2-2) 5. Missouri at Oklahoma State. October 6, 2001. This is a game that will feature two coaches that must recapture the magic brought once upon a time, just a few years ago. Cowboys are closer at this point. Oklahoma State-35 Missouri-24. (3-2) 6. Texas at Oklahoma State. October 13, 2001. This is a very interesting game for a fact that many Cowboy fans may not want to hear, Oklahoma. The Sooners play Texas the week before and if Texas is to win, look for a Cowboy upset. Unfortunately, I don't see the Longhorns making up 49 points on the Sooners. Texas-31 Oklahoma State-14. (3-3) 7. Oklahoma State at Iowa State. October 20, 2001. Iowa State came to Stillwater last year and pulled one out in the final minutes to put in the first call to UHaul for Bob Simmons. Brace yourself, the Pokes win on the road! Oklahoma State-33 ISU-28. (4-3) 8. Colorado at Oklahoma State. October 27, 2001. Colorado represents something that Oklahoma State will struggle with in 2001, the ability to stop multi-dimensional teams. The 'Buffs can run and pass with youthful vigor. CU-27 OSU-17. (4-4) 9. Texas Tech at Oklahoma State. November 10, 2001. Oklahoma State will make up the 58 points that they were blasted by a year ago and go over the edge towards a bowl season. Oklahoma State-42 Texas Tech-38. (5-4) 10. Oklahoma State at Baylor. November 17, 2001. Baylor sucks. Oklahoma State-48 Baylor-7. (6-4) 11. Oklahoma State at Oklahoma. November 24, 2001. Oklahoma State almost got what they had wanted for so many years and ruin a Sooner National Championship run, but like the past attempts, it succumbed to Sooner Magic. Les and the boys will make it interesting for a half, but they do play two. Oklahoma-42 Oklahoma State-14. (6-5) You know that feeling when you are starting a new job? That feeling of excitement, yet a strong hint of worry about what could go wrong? That is OSU football for 2001. If the Pokes can avoid a barrage of injuries and get down the new system in time for conference play it could be a second bowl trip in a dozen years. However, if injuries take over the team it could be another long, victory-challenged season. I am betting on a bowl, but don't be surprised if its in Shreveport or Houston. |
