Season of Embarrassment Continues for OSU by Justin Waganer Senior Sports Writer October 24, 2001
In what is shaping up to be the most embarrassing, disappointing season since the Pat Jones era the Oklahoma State Cowboys have fallen to 2-5 and will lose the dream of a bowl season with a loss to Colorado this Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Lewis Field in Stillwater. The Cowboys will attempt to end a three game losing streak and beat the Buffaloes who are steaming from a 41-7 drilling at the hands of Texas last week. As a warning to Poke fans I say, don't bet on it.
The Buffs are much better than the team that was beaten to a pulp in Austin last week and Oklahoma State continues to get worse as the weeks go by. In Ames, Iowa last week the Pokes gave up almost 300 yards rushing and gave up another 150 through the air while getting a pathetic 2.3 yards-per-carry en route to their 28-14 loss that could have been much worse, they were doubled in time of possession 20-40 by the Cyclones.
"There is a lot of people that are upset with what the schedule looks like now, coming into this season we all expected to be six and one, itıs tough for us all, but the most important thing is we have to keep our heads up and stay positive about everything and good things will come," said Terrence Robinson at the media luncheon on Monday. Some now wonder, where will those good things come?
There is a major gap in talent once again when the Buffaloes visit this week, most Vegas sports books have the Cowboys as 10-point underdogs on their home field, so a victory Saturday is doubtful. Especially now that the Buffs starting quarterback Craig Ochs will be back after missing the Texas game with a concussion he suffered earlier in the week. That is scary for the Cowboys because of their lack to stop a team with a balanced offense this season.
Colorado will come at OSU with several running backs who are capable of playing just about anywhere in the country and a passing attack that is very formidable with Ochs at the helm. On the other hand, the Oklahoma State offense must find a running game to move the ball on a Colorado defense that has shown flashes of greatness this season and will be prepared after giving up 41 points last week.
The Cowboys will most likely fall to 2-6 and once again "look to next year" after this one is over. The sad part is that the Pokes may not win another game this season. On Saturday I like Colorado 42-24.
