Cowboys Wrapping Up Solid Recruiting Class January 27, 2002 by Mac Thompson Prep Sports & Recruiting Columnist
Les Miles' recruiting momentum seems to be keeping up. Ever since the big win over OU in Norman, Miles and his staff have stepped up the caliber of players they are recruiting and getting to commit. Since our last update, the Cowboys have increased their current class to 22 and are probably looking at a top 30 class overall.
The big names the Pokes have added recently include Texas linebacker Pagitte McGee, Texas linebacker Darnell Smith, Texas corner Jarvis Murchison, and Texas athletes Adam Harvey, Paul Mosley and Jamar Ransom.
McGee and Smith should be able to help out the Pokes linebacker depth problem right away. The three athletes will give much needed depth to the defensive backfield position.
You should expect the Pokes to sign three more. The Pokes really need to add a couple of quarterbacks since Zac Taylor bolted for Wake Forest. The Cowboys are in on a couple, but really need help at the position. The Cowboys could also use Jenks linebacker Lawrence Pinson. At the beginning of the year, Pinson was one of the state's top recruits. He's still very talented, although many schools backed off of him for some reason. I think he would be a real steel for the Pokes.
