2001 Oklahoma State Cowboys

Strengths and Weaknesses

Strengths

QB-  The OSU quarterback situation this season is like when you get a scratch.  If it just gets the first layer of skin it doesn't really hurt, its that second layer that hurts.  If the Cowboys start Aso Pogi all season they'll have a few superficial scratches because Pogi is still young, but if Pogi gets hurt, much like that second layer of skin, the Boys could bleed all year.  Josh Fields could be a decent backup if he decides not to play baseball, if he does play baseball, someone needs to get the band-aids together.

RB-  This is a yearly strength at Running Back University.  Of course they would be stronger if Reggie White would've returned, but Tatum Bell is more than capable of being the starter with Timothy Burrough busting holes for him.  Behind Bell is a high school star in D.D. Cox and solid speedster Richard Schwarz.  Les Miles will know better than the guy before him who the right guy is to start.

LB-  A crew that is lead by All-Conference candidate Dwayne Levels, this unit has several strong athletes in Terrence Robinson, Fath Carter, and Ron Able.  Since Bill Clay is bringing in a 4-2-5 alignment that doesn't need incredible depth at linebacker this becomes a strength.

Weaknesses

DL-  The D-Line for O-State is returning just one starter in Kevin Williams to a unit that must put pressure on opposing Big 12 quarterbacks that will be lighting up an inexperienced secondary.  Greg Richmond, Jake Riffe, and Chris Tyler had saw a limited amount of action and don't plan to make offensive coordinators worry too much.

DB-  Elbert Craig and Chris Massey are solid athletes who can play safety well and don't figure to be a liability.  While Michael Cooper has improved and Kobina Amoo figures to make a difference, its still not a crew that you would feel incredibly safe with going into a conference that has made a move to the pass.
