OU Football Run Down

Sooner Strengths
QB's- The Sooner QB's are as deep and talented as they've
been in at least 10 years with Josh Heupel leading the way as a
possible Heisman candidate. Heupel is backed up by Georgia
transfer Nate Hybl, who has NFL size and skills. Jason White, a
1998 recruiting gem will most likely be third in line with the skills
to start at most Big 12 schools this year. Hunter Wall was the QB
recruit a year ago and possesses a lot of talent himself, but will be
redshirted. Finally, Patrick Fletcher will be quarter backing the scout
team and forever be the talent behind the amazing 1998 John Blake
2-0 start.

WR's- Though the Sooners lost their two leaders in Jarrail Jackson
and Brandon Daniels, they return Antwone Savage, Andre Woolfolk,
and Damian Mackey along with incoming freshmen Will Peoples, Ataleo
Ford, and Antonio Perkins. In an offense with the brains and potential
of Josh Heupel guiding it these receivers could be in for great seasons.

LB's- The Linebacker core is as strong of a position as the Sooners have
right now with Big 12 Defensive MVP and All- American candidate Rocky
Calmus leading the way with Torrance Marshall and Roger Steffen on his
side Oklahoma also beefed LB depth with the signings of Ted Lehman,
Jimmy Wilkerson, Ronbrose Jones, Charles Dupree, and Gayron Allen.

Sooner Weaknesses
OL- The offensive line lost it's anchor in Stocker McDougal and quality
center Matt O'Neal. Bubba Burcham will replace O'Neal at center and Scott
Kempenich will attempt to live up to a long awaited successful season. Frank
Romero has made the move to the O-Line and Al Baysinger will get into the
starting lineup in his senior season. The Sooners may be thin enough to put
in coveted recruit Wes Sims. This line must pull together to protect Josh Heupel
and create a ground game or this will be a long season.

DB's- The defensive backfield was decimated due to graduation and must rely
on youth to achieve defensive success. Roy Williams returns and could be a huge
part of bringing together a group of young DB's.

Other Positions
RB's- This was a big concern in the off-season as far as depth is concerned.
The starting job is all but certain with Quenton Griffin and Seth Littrell will be
the starting HB. The signing of Renaldo Works gave the OU coaches something
to get excited about. Backups Buster Kuhn, Dwight McKissic, Jay Hunt, Josh
Norman, and Jamar Mozee may see time as well depending on the score and
Griffin's success.

TE's- As always at OU the Tight end position is nothing to worry about with
the starter Trent Smith being a possible Big 12 team player. The Sooners are
very deep at TE with Chris Hammons, Matt Anderson, and Josh Tucker all
being viable starters.

DL- While the Oklahoma Defensive line is nothing to get overly excited about,
they aren't a weak group either. Experience is the name of the game with the
Sooner line with 2 seniors, Cory Callens and Ryan Fisher, and 2 Juniors, Barry
Holleyman and Cory Heinecke. The signing of Jammal Brown was huge for OU,
though grades may keep him off the field. The Sooners also signed Juco's Juan
Prishker and Marcus Chretien that figure to be a part of the line immediately.
