OU seeks revenge against the Jayhawks

The Oklahoma Sooners seek a win against the Kansas Jayhawks for the first time since the Gary Gibbs era. The Sooners lost to the Jayhawks in 1996 & 1998 in Norman and lost in Lawrence in 1997.  The two teams have not played since the 1997 game.

So far this season, the Jayhawks are 2-1 with victories over Alabama Birmingham and Southern Illinois. They lost their season opener at SMU 31-17.

Kansas Coach Terry Allen realizes the importance of defeating the Sooners. That's why he recently admitted that he spent last week preparing for the Sooners, instead of preparing for Southern Illinois. The move paid off as the Jayhawks rolled to a 42-0 victory. The move did, however, surprise his players.

"He didn't tell us we were practicing for Oklahoma," KU senior running back David Winbush told the Kansas City Star. "We got away with a win, so it was a good strategy by Coach Allen."
