2001 Oklahoma Sooners

Season Analysis

 1.  North Carolina at Oklahoma.  August 25, 2001.

The Tar Heels must pressure the new OU quarterback early or things could get ugly for an average UNC team.  OU- 31  UNC- 13.  (1-0)

2.  Oklahoma at Air Force.  September 1, 2001.

Air Force has little experience back and will have no success with the option against a defense that considers 4.5 forty yard dashes slow at the linebacker position.  OU-38  Air Force-0.  (2-0)

3.  North Texas at Oklahoma.  September 8, 2001.

The Mean Green Eagles aren't so mean, they're actually terrible.  OU-59  North Texas-0.  (3-0)

4.  Tulsa at Oklahoma.  September 15, 2001.

A huge game for the Golden Hurricane to prove that they are on the rise in the state of Oklahoma, though the final may not actually show that.  OU-45  Tulsa-7.  (4-0)

5.  Kansas State at Oklahoma.  September 29, 2001.

Ell Roberson or Marc Dunn will have a rough go of it in their first Big 12 start.  Bill starts to wonder how to beat Bob.  OU-34  Kansas State-13.  (5-0)

6.  Oklahoma vs. Texas.  October 6, 2001.

The Longhorns will make ground on their 49 point thrashing in 2000, though not a big enough jump to win.  OU-28  Texas-13.  (6-0).

7.  Oklahoma at Kansas.  October 13, 2001.

Terry Allen gets his boxes prepared for packing.  OU-45  Kansas-10.  (7-0)

8.  Baylor at Oklahoma.  October 20, 2001.

Kevin Steele gets another contract extension.  OU-55  Baylor-3.  (8-0)

9.  Oklahoma at Nebraska.  October 27, 2001.

Yet another team that has revenge on their mind for a 2000 whipping.  The Cornhuskers always play well at home, but the lack of a pass threat dooms them.  OU-17  Nebraska-7.  (9-0)

10. Texas A&M at Oklahoma.  November 10, 2001.

R.C. Slocum picks a horse to ride in the coaching carousel after another trip to the Norman Woodshed.  OU- 38  A&M- 10.  (10-0)

11. Oklahoma at Texas Tech.  November 17, 2001.

Mike Leach gave the Sooners more of a game than most thought they would last season and will give them even more of a scare in Lubbock.  OU-24  Tech-20.  (11-0)

11. Oklahoma State at Oklahoma.  November 24, 2001.

Les Miles offense will make it interesting with a couple of big plays early, but will give up way too much in the midst of another loss in Norman.  OU-42  OSU-14.  (12-0)

Sooner fans must brace themselves for another run for college football supremacy, needing two more national titles to tie Notre Dame for the most with 9.  It's hard to see inexperienced Kansas State coming to Norman and walking away with a victory, Texas making up 49 points, or Nebraska having enough of a pass threat to score.  So many things must go right for a national championship, but OU has as good of a chance as anyone in college football to win it all.
