Sooners Bedlam Notes

November 25, 2001

* The Sooners BCS hopes were crushed Saturday with the devastating loss to the Cowboys. The Big 12 will still have two teams playing in BCS bowls. Nebraska is a virtual lock with OU's loss and the winner of the Colorado-Texas Big 12 Championship will get the other invitation. Unfortunately, with the Sooners loss the Big 12, which is arguably the best conference in college football, will probably not have representation in the Rose Bowl. How quickly things change.

* Nate Hybl will probably start the Sooners' bowl game, but it could be his last start barring an injury. No matter what the coaches say, it's obvious that Hybl is not the answer at QB. Expect Junior Jason White or Redshirt Freshman Brent Rawls to get the nod next season. My bet is it will be White early since he's got the experience. Hybl will be a decent backup with a lot of experience.

* The Sooners will probably end up in either the Cotton Bowl or the Holiday Bowl. If Texas wins the Big 12 Championship, expect the Sooners to be in the Cotton Bowl against either LSU or Auburn. If Colorado wins the Big 12 Championship, the Sooners would probably play Washington in the Holiday Bowl. The Holiday Bowl is Dec. 28 in San Diego, the Cotton Bowl is Jan. 1 in Dallas.

* Next year, the Sooners have a schedule that sets up for a shot at another National Championship. The toughest games will be Texas in Dallas and at Texas A&M. The Sooners have home games against Alabama and Colorado. However, the Sooners won't win it next year either if they don't improve their offense, most importantly their running game.
