Oklahoma vs. North Texas

Position by Position

September 4, 2001

Quarterbacks-  Nate Hybl appeared to hit a stride on Saturday against the Air Force.  After his passes to Damian Mackey and Andre Woolfolk, Hybl appeared to get tremendous confidence.  The Eagles' Scott Hall went 3-12 with 23 yards in the season opener against TCU.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Running Backs-  The lone bright spot for the lowly Mean Green was running back Kevin Galbreath carrying 20 times for 112 yards.  Oklahoma's Quentin Griffin had a career-high 201 yards against Air Force and may not play a better running back all year.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Wide Receivers-  Oklahoma's have been part of a national championship and played well against the Falcons last week.  Two guys caught a ball for North Texas last week.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Offensive Line-  The Sooner line punished Air Force all day on Saturday and appears to be coming together for a big season.  North Texas linemen had to play for North Texas.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Defensive Line-  No contest.  North Texas just has very little talent folks.  It's going to be a long Saturday for the Green.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Linebackers-  Brandon Moore appeared to return to old form on Saturday, Teddy Lehman looks to be a good one, and Rocky Calmus is flat out the best defensive player in America.  Thanks for playing Eagles.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Defensive Backs-  In Derrick Strait, Brandon Everage, and Roy Williams the Sooners may have the best three defensive backs in the country.  Now, it appears that Antonio Perkins and Andre Woolfolk will be good ones too.  Oh, North Texas will reportedly bring guys to play defensive back.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Special Teams-  Tim Duncan and Jeff Ferguson may bring home the school's first Lou Groza and Ray Guy awards for best kicker and punter.  These guys are incredible.  North Texas' punter will get plenty of work on Saturday.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Coaching-  Please.  Bob Stoops and Company are now 22-5 at Oklahoma while Darrell Dickey and Company are 8-26.  Somebody call the Eagles and tell them to stay home, this will be ugly.

Advantage-  Oklahoma

Summary-  This is not going to be a nail-biter, this is not going to be a squeaker, this is going to be incredibly ugly.  Bring a roster, in the fourth quarter you will see a lot of guys you've never seen before.
