2001 Oklahoma Sooners Strengths & Weaknesses Strengths RB- Oklahoma returns Quentin Griffin who averaged 4.1 ypc last season with 16 rushing touchdowns, including six in one game against Texas. Behind him is an array of talent from Renaldo Works and Jerad Estus to incoming freshmen Kejuan Jones, Seymore Shaw, and Donta Hickson. The only worry would be if someone can fill the shoes of the graduated Seth Littrell. WR- The Sooners have virtually every player back who caught a ball a year ago. Antwone Savage and Andre Woolfolk have All-American potential, Damian Mackey and Curtis Fagan are terribly underrated, and Josh Norman and Trent Smith will breakout after solid finishes last season. Look for contributions from sophomore Lance Donnelly and Washington transfer Quentin Morgan. DL- Kory Klein and Bary Holleyman return with promise to support the middle of the defensive line with highly-touted big boys Jammal Brown and Tommy Harris ready to give backup. The ends are stocked with the return of possible All-Big 12 teamer Corey Heinecke on one end with plenty of guys ready to play with him. Marcus Chretien has drawn attention at times, Jimmy Wilkerson and Dan Cody harassed Florida State in the national championship game after solid freshmen seasons. DB- The loss of Michael Thompson may hurt a bit early, but the coaches feel good about Terrance Sims and Antonio Perkins filling in. Derrick Strait will play the other corner with the ability of a first team All-America just as Roy Williams will at his safety spot. The loss of J.T. Thatcher looks big on paper, but sophomore Brandon Everage started the second half of the season a year ago and is ready to break out in 2001.
Weaknesses OL- This has to be considered a weakness early because of the loss of a center and a tackle from last season's squad. Though the Sooners have good talent they are somewhat thin, maybe even more than a year ago. However, this has been a question mark before the start of the last two seasons and finished being a strength. Don't forget last season's national assistant coach of the year coaches this position.
