Sooners Add Three More Commitments December 10, 2001 by Mac Thompson High School & Recruiting Columnist
The Oklahoma coaching staff brought in about 17 recruits over the past weekend which resulted in three oral (non-binding) commitments for next year's recruiting class. The three new commitments are Jason Carter, a defensive back from Jenks, Brodney Pool, another DB and Calvin Thibodeaux, a defensive end from Houston.
Carter (6-0, 178, 4.3) played the past two seasons on the powerful Jenks Trojans football team. He is one of the top recruits in the state of Oklahoma. Carter chose OU over OSU, Nebraska and Tennessee. Expect Carter to be redshirted next season but to possibly compete in 2003 for a backup role.
Pool (6-3, 195, 4.5) is a more highly recruited kid than Carter. Pool was also recruited by Kansas State, Colorado and Purdue. Pool will more than likely also be redshirted next season, but will compete in 2003.
Thibodeaux (6-3, 248, 4.75) is a big get for the Sooners at a much needed position, defensive end. He will have a great shot at making an immediate impact next season in a backup role. The Sooners beat out Michigan, Notre Dame and LSU for Thibodeaux's commitment.
The Sooners coaching staff seems to be really gaining momentum in the recruiting war. Stoops and staff have been in many homes in the last couple of weeks and are targeting to sign about 20 athletes in February.
