Sooners Own Dallas...in Recruiting Too October 14, 2002 by Mac Thompson Senior Recruiting Analyst
Bob Stoops and company have won four straight games in Dallas (three against Texas and one against Arkansas in last year's Cotton Bowl). They have also won several major recruiting battles in Big D. Sunday night, the Sooners received a pair of verbal commitments from Tony Cade (6-2, 200 lb, safety, 4.43) and Demarrio Pleasant (6-3, 215 lb, LB, 4.49). Cade and Pleasant play for Lewisville in Dallas. The two committed after this weekend's big victory in the Red River War.
Cade and Pleasant join four other current prepsters who have committed to play at OU: 1. Tommy Grady ( 6-2, 200 lb, QB, 4.9) from Huntington Beach, Calif. is one of the nation's best passers. 2. Marcus Johnson ( 6-1, 175 lb, Ath, 4.4) from Abilene, Texas will most likely be a wide receiver or DB. 3. Ryan Schuler (6-7, 270, OL, 4.9) from Sioux Falls, South Dakota is one of the nation's best offensive linemen. 4. Brian Zimpel (6-5, 310, OL, 5.3) from Broken Arrow, Okla. is one of the best offensive line prospects in the state.
The Sooners are also hoping to add the following high school stars to their roster next year: 1. Robert Meachem (6-3, 200 lb, WR, 4.3) of Tulsa, Okla. is one of the top five wide outs in America. He should end up at OU when all is said and done. 2. Tristen Ross (6-1, 190, WR, 4.5) of Shreveport, La. is another top prospect at wide receiver. He will likely be a Sooner soon. 3. Brandon Keith (6-6, 320 lbs, OL, 5.1) of McAlester, Okla. is the best O-Lineman from the Sooner state in quite some time. 4. Donnie Woods (6-4, 290, OL, 5.0) of Tampa, Fla. is another great OL prospect the Sooners could land. Look out. 5. Dane Zaslaw (6-2, 240, LB, 4.6) of Edmond, Okla. is a good prospect at linebacker. He could make an immediate special teams impact if he signs with OU. 6. Lewis Baker (6-3, 200, LB, 4.5) of Lewisville, Texas is another potential Dallas Sooner. 7. Ian Yates-Cunningham (6-5, 300, OL, 5.0) of Lewisville, Texas could be the fourth from the Dallas area. 8. Xavier Lawson-Kennedy (6-3, 305, DT, 4.8) of Duncanville, Texas is a great prospect. 9. Carl Pendleton Jr. (6-6, 270, DT, 4.9) of Sapulpa, Okla. should be a Sooner in the next few weeks. 10. Jarvis Moss (6-7, 220, DE, 4.5) of Denton, Texas is a big time player the Sooners really want.
