McGhee, Selvy Start Down New Paths by Justin Waganer Senior Sports Writer April 10, 2002
Just a few weeks removed from taking Oklahoma to its first Final Four since 1988 former Sooner Seniors Daryan Selvy and Aaron McGhee are embarking on new careers. McGhee is making waves that he hopes to convert into an NBA career and Daryan Selvy has signed with the Oklahoma Storm of the USBL.
McGhee is a 6-8, 250 pound forward who led OU in rebounding with 7.7 per game and was second on the team in scoring with 16.0 points-per-game in 2001-02. McGhee was named the MVP of the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament last weekend, the first of several NBA Draft Camps. He averaged 22 points and 12 rebounds per game in the tournament and racked up 30 points and 15 boards in the Championship game.
Selvy was the first round selection of the Oklahoma Storm in the USBL Draft on Tuesday and will begin play with the team on April 21st in Dodge City, Kansas. The Storm is coached by Kareem-Abdul Jabbar this season and features other familiar names such as Doug Gottlieb, Chianti Roberts, Adrian Peterson, Eric Coley, and Tony Heard.
