Sooners Roll in Another

Red River Rout

February 23, 2002

The Texas Longhorns are getting quite tired of this Red River Rivalry.  Behind the trio of 20 (Quannas White, Aaron McGhee, and Ebi Ere) Oklahoma knocked off Texas for the seventh straight time and 23rd in the last 27 times with a 96-78 win in front of a raucous 12, 724 at Lloyd Noble Center.

Ebi Ere led Oklahoma with 23 points, including 21 in the second half, Quannas White went 3-3 from three point range adding 20 points, and Aaron McGhee had his sixth double-double in the last eight games with 20 points and 10 boards.  Hollis Price had 14 points in just 28 minutes and Jason Detrick had 11 points with five rebounds in 27 minutes.

Texas was led by the phenomenal freshman T.J. Ford with 22 points, eight assists, and seven rebounds but did struggle at times with seven turnovers.  Brandon Mouton had 15 points and eight rebounds for the Horns and James Thomas had 14 points and 11 rebounds.

The Sooners and Horns traded baskets early, but Oklahoma broke free to a 26-16 lead after a 14-2 that included four three-pointers, two each for Price and White.  OU led by 15 at one point in the first half and took an eight point lead to the half at 42-34.

Oklahoma used 28-30 free throw shooting, only seven turnovers, and 12 three-pointers to get to 96 points, the highest total since a 98-72 win over Texas Tech on January 12.  Not coincidentally, that was also the last time Ebi Ere scored higher than he did against the Longhorns.

The Sooners play next against Iowa State in Norman at 8 p.m.  The game will be televised by ESPN+, local channel 34.  The game is the last home game for Oklahoma this season.
