Biggest Games 1. Colorado State at UNLV. September 14, 2001. Hard to believe, but September 14th will decide the Mountain West Conference Championship. 2. Utah at Colorado State. October 27th, 2001. This is a game that Utah must win to prove that 2000 was a fluke. 3. Utah at BYU. November 17th, 2001. Always a classic, 2000 was decided with 23 seconds remaining. Will be odd without LaVell Edwards on the sideline. 4. Colorado State vs. Colorado. September 1st, 2001. Great game for Mountain West exposure on a day when it will get plenty. A classic since it was placed in Denver, always a great game. 5. Oklahoma at Air Force. September 1st, 2001. It's not common for the Mountain West to get three strong national opponents on the same day. UNLV plays at Arkansas, Colorado State plays Colorado, and of course anytime anybody plays the defending national champion it's big.
Going Bowling 1. New Orleans Bowl. December 18, 2001. #3 Mountain West 2. Las Vegas Bowl. December 20, 2001. #2 Mountain West 3. AXA/Equitable Liberty Bowl. December 31, 2001. MW Champ The Mountain West has three bowl bids this season, barring that UNLV, Colorado State, or BYU doesn't get a BCS bid. Don't hold your breath on that one. The brand new New Orleans Bowl will pit the third best Mountain West team, which we believe to be BYU, against the always tough Sun Belt champ. Yes, Idaho vs. BYU, set the VCR for December 18th. Better yet get TIVO, you don't want to miss that one. Colorado State will face an at-large team in the Las Vegas Bowl, a game that excites congress. Finally, UNLV will face the champ of Conference USA and the nation will be introduced to QB Jason Thomas, via Memphis and the AXA/Equitable Liberty Bowl.
