2003 College Football Preview

Oklahoma Schedule Analysis

August 12, 2003

The Oklahoma Sooners enter the 2003 campaign as a National Championship frontrunner, but game one will take a flashback in uniforms to the fifties and seventies.  The Big Red didn't stop there, they also scheduled an opponent that takes them back to the dark days of the nineties when things weren't exactly running smoothly.  MORE

Could History Repeat Itself

After Sooner Defeat?

November 12, 2002

Barry Switzer stood before a dejected group of young athletes in the locker room of Memorial Stadium after taking a 27-14 beating at the hands of Miami.  The Hurricanes had blasted a dominant Sooner D that had given up just 20 points in three games and Oklahoma's title hopes seemed to be dashed.  Switzer stood there with a grin on his face and simply said, "I'll tell you what men, I'm inspired by our offense!"  MORE

OU Championship Hopes Not Dashed

in Loss to Aggies

November 10, 2002

OU fans should love the Bowl Championship Series. In the olden days, before the birth of the BCS Ratings, a loss to an unranked team in November usually spelled doom and gloom for a team's National Championship dreams. However, thanks to the addition of computer rankings and strength of schedule ratings, this year's Sooner team is not out of the championship hunt yet.  MORE

Sooners Own Dallas...in Recruiting Too

Bob Stoops and company have won four straight games in Dallas (three against Texas and one against Arkansas in last year's Cotton Bowl). They have also won several major recruiting battles in Big D.  MORE

Big Game Hunters

Sooners Control the River

October 13, 2002

Quentin Griffin is Texas born, but Sooner bred as he proved with his 32 carry, 248 yard performance against the team most Texans dream to play for in OU's 35-24 victory over Texas in Dallas on Saturday.  Once again the OU defense stayed one step ahead of the UT offense, but the story of the day was Mighty Mite himself and the surging Sooner offense.  MORE

Sooner Victory Lacks Luster,

Season Begins Saturday

September 29, 2002

When talking of unimpressive performances against mid-major, athletic underdogs the Sooners needn't go any further than Austin, Texas to find understanding.  Much like the Longhorns opening performance against North Texas, the Sooners looked uninterested and complacent in a 31-14 victory over South Florida on Saturday Night.  MORE

Sooners Get Commitment from

Top National Point Guard

September 16, 2002

Columbus, Ohio native Andrew Lavender has verbally committed to play basketball at the University of Oklahoma. Lavender, a 5-7, 155 pound point guard, is easily the top recruit OU Coach Kelvin Sampson has landed since Ryan Humphrey.  MORE

Sooners Prepare to Tune-Up            Offense versus UTEP

True Freshman Paul Thompson to Play

September 13, 2002

Oklahoma fans may get a peek into the future tomorrow night when true freshman QB Paul Thompson makes an appearance. Thompson will be backing up Senior QB Nate Hybl against UTEP. If the game turns into a blowout, Thompson should see his first playing time in crimson and cream, according to Bob Stoops.  MORE

Tide's Roll Stopped

by Sooner Magic

September 9, 2002

When we talked of all the tradition that was colliding on Owen Field last Saturday we were talking of teams that knew historically how to win.  In recent history the Sooners have been the team that has found ways to win and on Saturday the Sooners Boomed to a lead, the Tide Rolled back, and Sooner Magic won it, 37-27.  MORE

No Shortage of Tradition

In Crimson Clash

September 5, 2002

If you're a college football fan the names Bear Bryant, Barry Switzer, Joe Namath, and Brian Bosworth will send a chill up your spine.  These names all come from the tradition rich football programs of Alabama and Oklahoma, bringing the question when all championships are counted, whose stack is higher?  MORE

Sooners Stumble to Blowout

August 31, 2002

In front of a Skelly Stadium sellout crowd the Oklahoma Sooners won a game August style over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane 37-0.  It was a performance that you could never mistake for being polished, but got the job done, the Sooners won and won comfortably.  MORE

Sooners Get Commitment from Top QB

August 30, 2002

It's still very early, but the 2003 recruiting class looks like it has a chance to be OU's best under Stoops and company. Yesterday, the Sooners received an oral, non-binding commitment from the nation's second best prep quarterback, Tommy Grady.  MORE

2002 Sooner Outlook

August 29, 2002

The Sooners of the 1980s, 1990s, and the early years of 2000 have proven the old saying, "what goes around comes around."  The Sooners were a dominant force in the '80s only to crumble in the '90s leading to the Stoops resurgence in 2000.  How will the Sooners do in 2002?  Click here to find out!

Freshmen Making Impact on OU Practices

August 12, 2002

Just when you think OU has enough returning talent that the incoming freshmen class will be mostly red-shirted, the athletes get the opportunity to prove themselves. In the first week of practices for the Sooners, several true freshmen have made impact and have the opportunity to get significant playing time this season.  MORE

The Beginning of Another Dynasty?

August 4, 2002

After winning a National Championship trophy in 2000 and piling up 11 more wins in 2001, Bob Stoops could be starting the next Sooner Football Dynasty.  Many say it would be the third dynasty, but with all do respect to writers and speakers on this subject I beg to differ.  I agree with the statement that it is the beginning of a dynasty, but I would call it the 4th in OU football history.  MORE

Sampson Adds Another Top Commitment to Already Great Class

July 1, 2002

Oklahoma Head Basketball Coach Kelvin Sampson yesterday added 6-10, 225 pound Larry Turner to his 2002 recruiting class. Turner originally signed to play at Georgia, but had problems qualifying and was forced to look at other options. MORE
